gps and docters are nice but the staff receptionist are rude and cold all the time

doctors are good but receptionist was very very rude she told me my problem wasnt a emergancy and i was wasting doctors time. doctor orderd blood tests for that day and told me to book a follow up appointment witch reception refused to book

I've been living in Sevenoaks for 18 months now and in that time my wife and I have been registered with South Park Medical centre out of convenience due to proximity to where we live. My first remark is that the doctor's are good. They take time to understand patient issues, are not dismissive in any way and work to find the best care and medication for you. I'm an asthmatic so do use the surgery more frequently. The in house asthma nurse is also good. My review however is heavily tainted due to the behaviour of the reception team, which seems to be a common complaint across a number of GP clinics in Sevenoaks. On every occasion in dealing with the reception staff I find them snooty and obnoxious. I do appreciate that the NHS and in particular GP surgeries are stretched which puts pressures on all staff however the receptionists are the front line of the NHS so their conduct both in dealing with patients and in executing their jobs reflects on the NHS as a whole. Since specific examples of this behaviour are:- on initially registering when I moved to the area I was questioned rather brashly about whether I lived locally (I remember well the tone of question, it made me immediately feel unwelcome as if I was going to be a burden to the practice by signing up)- my repeat prescription for my asthma medication has not been processed at least three times, once causing me to be without medication for almost a week, putting me at risk. They don't accept over the phone or email requests for repeats (you have to be physically in attendance, which I find difficult as I often work away for 4 days a week). Even when I had signed up to patient access (not something they offered to ease my and their burden but something I stumbled on myself after some googling), they have still failed to get it right - the appointment times are laughable and never on time, usually 30 mins to an hour late. One time I sat there for 2 hours and 45 minutes (I was the only person there for the final 30 mins). Again I understand the challenges faced by GP's here but the reception team can go a long way to help here perhaps alleviating thier own pressures by advising patients of delays on arrival or by contacting patients in advance to advise of lengthier delays- my wife is pregnant and has gestational diabetes, along with mild anaemia. We were advised by the diabetes clinic to go and see the GP to get an extra prescription for needles and blood strips for use over the Xmas period, importantly as we were away with family. We went in on the 21st December, passed along a paper copy of the prescription *another was emailed over) which was duly marked 'Very Urgent'. We were advised that the prescription would be available Monday Monday 24th, which it was not. We called back on the 27th and the receptionist (unhelpful and rude) advised that it had been processed, although this turned out to be the iron supplements (not marked as urgent) and not the needles/ strips (marked as urgent, also claimed they had no record of an email). They promised a call back by end of day, it didn't happen. The current stock runs out today so my wife now has to self sterilise and to re-use needles.- on the 21st was offered an appointment on December 27th over the phone for my wife's blood analysis which we could not make due to being away for xmas. The next appointment we were offered was January 18th. When asked if there was perhaps something earlier owing to the more immediate nature of being diabetic when pregnant the receptionist rather snootily complained that we were being unhelpful turning down all the options she was presenting- have been told by the reception they that have 5-6,000 patients to see so cant help today (despite it being early morning and only one person in the waiting room). This is more an example of the attitude you get from the reception. I do appreciate that while the waiting area might be near empty the doctor's still have paperwork and patient call backsI think the practice manager needs to take a look at the processes in place on reception.

These people have wasted a huge amount of my time. I'm moving away, and won't have to tolerate this shambolic practise ever again. I ended up using a private GP instead whilst I lived in Sevenoaks.

I experienced great and caring service at South Park Medical Centre both from medical and the receptionist staff. I would full heartedly recommend registering with them.
